How to convert hourly pay to a salary

Yearly pay = hourly rate × hours a week × weeks a year
Shortcut at 40 hours: double the hourly rate and add three zeros, then add 4%. $25 → $50,000 + $2,000 = $52,000

The shortcut works because 2,080 hours is 2,000 + 80, and 80 is 4% of 2,000. For an exact answer, multiply by 2,080. For a part-time job, use your real hours: 25 hours a week for 52 weeks is 1,300 hours.

Limitations

  • The table doesn't include overtime, tips, bonuses or shift pay. See the overtime pay calculator.
  • If you're not paid for holidays or time off, use fewer weeks in the converter.
  • The take-home column is an estimate. Use the take-home pay calculator for your own state and deductions.

How many work hours are in a year?

2,080 for a 40-hour week, 52 weeks a year. With two unpaid weeks off it's 2,000. Some years have one extra weekday, which can add 8 hours of pay for hourly workers.

What is $20 an hour yearly?

$41,600 a year before taxes at 40 hours a week: $20 × 2,080.
